Prior to the commencement of the business at the final sitting of the Alanaia Magistrate’s Court for the present year, iMr. A. G. Bennett, on behalf of the Bar, expressed the usual complimentary wishes of the festive season to Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M. In reviewing the work of the year, Mr. Bennett said that few criminal cases had come before the court at Manaia, while licensing complaints had been light. Civil litigation had also not been heavy, and this served to show that the residents of the district were living peacefully together. A year ago the finances of the Dominion had fiot been in a good condition, but this had improved considerably, and the prospect of the coming year seemed bright. He hoped that the pleasant relations which had existed between Bench and Bar would continue, and expressed the compliments of the season to his Worship. Mr. Tate replied reciprocating the good wishes extended by the legal fraternity.
