MISS HUGHES JOHNSON’S PUPILS The picture features screened at the Opera House on Saturday evening were supplemented with an attractive, though brief, programme of operatic, character and folk dance numbers interpreted by a bevy of young pupils of Miss, Hughes Johnson, of Wanganui. Six daintily clad and well-tutored juveniles participated in a clever exhibition and were received with marked approval by the Saturday night audience While each was accorded merited approbation, pride of place m popular opinion was given to Miss Joy ce Hayward, a particularly accomplished performer, who, on Saturday, made hei second appearance before a Ha.wera audience. Miss Hayward contributed a difficult skipping dance and was partnered with Miss Mee Cimujo, in a o-raceful number from The Weddm o ’,” and operatic dance l arranged by Miss Johnson. Though only 13 years of acre she has- the distinction of having secured the open championship in operatic classical, character and skipping dancing at the Wanganui competitions. Another dainty dancer was Ora Jones, who contributed the number “Jack Tn The Box,’! and. a. ballet number and who was the winner of tl<e championship for dancers under 1at Wano-amii.
