LAWN TENNIS.

THE AMATEUR STATUS. PRESS ARTICLES BANNED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT , LONDON, Nov. 14. The Lawn Tennis Association will submit at its annual meeting in December a, new rule forbidding amateur players writing press reports, or giving interviews, for the same purpose in connection with tournaments, matches or competitions in which they are playing. The proposal) is encountering inucli opposition from player-writers.

SATURDAY’S PLAY. Mention has been made in tlie course of the week of matches for Saturday. The arrangements, however, were not sufficiently far advanced to enable any but practice, games to take peace. The day was threatening in the morning and the courts were .soft. A stiff southerly cleared away the clouds after mid-day, and with the aid of the sun the turf was .soon in a playable condition. At the Park Club, an enthusiastic party of club members appeared and had a very good day’s .sport. The grounds were more or less sheltered from tlie wind, and players wer© able to recapture some of the form displayed at the end of last year. At the Hawera Club there was a good atendance of tennis and croquet players. The turf, which lias received considerable attention from members lately, was in excellent condition. It is noticeable this year that players show a disposition to make a more catholic use of the courts. Last year number one and two received too much wear. They were nearest the pavilion, and players used them so vigorously that tlieir surface wore out too quiekly in comparison with other and equally good courts. The ground committee is assisting the members in their tenoenev to play freely on all the courts by leaving tne “not to be used” notice upon sncli courts as have received more than their fair share of play in the past.
