GOLF.

CLOSING I AY. HAWERA LADIES’ CLUB.

(By “Mashie.”)

A nasty cold wet morning with a disagreeably strong wind, fo “ beautiful afternoon, was the luek in weather for the closing day °* -J}? ms’ golf club on Saturday. the morning’s attendance was not nearly so good as usual. Contrary to their expectations the few who did arrive prepared for the worst, found the course dry underfoot and the ram over for the rest of the day, but the wind was “so hoist’rous rough’’ that a steady stance or address was an impossibility. The afternoon’s events closed with the distribution of tlie prizes. Probably no more attractive array of silver and brass, china and leather-work has ever graced the club’s prize table, and the good taste/ of the donors and selectors cannot fail to be appreciated by the recipients of these beautiful things which in the absence of Mrs Tonks, senr were presented by the president of tiie club. Before making the presentations, she briefly mentioned happenings of interest during the season, voiced the club’s appreciation of the kindncs' of those who had presentee, trophies, and of the press, and expressed the hope that all would enjoy the summer interval, and return to golf next season as keen and enthusiastic as
