A deputation representing the 'Reserves Protection Society and other associations, waited on the Hons. Downie Stewart and F. J. Rolleston and asked the Government, in view of the contemplated action of the Wellington, City Council to take a portion of certain reserves ,to protect public property and the rights of the neople. Mr. Downie Stewart, in reply, said that the question of the city reserves ms likely to become national instead of local, if not .settled soon. His desire was that it should be settled before it became a running sore and created friction. So far as the local position was concerned, he did not want to. .set up any elaborate machinery, and proposed to refer the. matter to 1 Mr Hurst Segar. one of the leading town-planning enthusiasts. and the officers of the Public Works Department. This' might be a quick and informal wav of getting a decision.
