TROTTING TATTLE. FIXTURES. Nov. ill, 20 —Nelson. Nov. 20. 24.—Otalmhu. Nov. 26. 27. —Forbury Yavk. Dec. S, 11.—Wellington. (By “Limit.”) .The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotling Club’s meeting opened last Tuesday, in good weather, before a big attendance. The racing throughout the dav was full of interest. The New Zealand Trotting Cup, for a stake of £3OOO, was won by Ahurin u good style. Ahuriri won this race last year, and, judging by liis brilliant showing in this event, good things can be expected from him during the present season. , The second big attraction of the urst day was the two-mile trotting race, for a stake of £IOOO. This race created much interest, there being three horses regarded as. New Zealand’s best straight-out trotters engaged in the event. These animals were: Escapade, Money Spider, and Peterwah. The latter was handicapped on 72 yards behind. and his running time was 4min 30 2-ssec. Some of those who saw this race say that it was the finest exhibi-

lion. of straight-out trotting ever witnessed in New Zealand. There was some delay at the start of the New Zealand Trotting Cup, owing to Native Chief being unruly at the barrier. Eventually the field was sent away, except for Native Chief, who lost a few seconds, on even terms. Great Bingen broke after the start, and did not take part m the race at all. Ahuriri was always nicely placed, in about fifth position till the final round, when he pulled out in the back straight, and went away to win comfortably by three lengths. -The time for the first mile was 2min Msec, and the second was run. in 2min llsec, making the actual time for the race of 4min 25sec. The winner was handicapped on a 24 yards behind mark, liis running time for the race being 4min 2osec. Taurekareka, who raced so consistently a couple of seasons ago, showed a return to form on the first day, by winning the Empire Handicap. He'returned a good dividend. J. Bryce, seur., had his day at home on the first day of the meeting, winning three races, and finishing second in two other events. One of his best races to date' was that, of Prince Pointer, who ran second in the New Zealand Trotting Cup. Judging from his display in that event he should win some good events before the season closes. With the nominatibns and handicaps out for the forthcoming Otahuhu meeting, to be hold on November 20, owners and trainers are busy in getting horses in order. Judging by the list of nominations, the meeting should be a. success. .Mr R. T. Reid, the recently appointed handicapper, has carried out his duties well. Our local stables will be well represented at Otahuhu. Six horses are seen on the nomination card. J. Bullock has Priscilla Dean and Sister Beatrice; Sam Smith, Uramic and Master Cute; C. Le Campion, Napper; and I’. Green, Van Can and Marble HalL After going into J. Bryce’s stable, Dalmihine raced consistently without getting on the winning list. Now the horse has made amends by winning the Victoria Handicap on the first day at Christchurch. Dalnahine last season, was trained by N. B. Edwards, winning for him -some two or three good faces, including the Wellington Cup. At tlie coming Hawera show, there is a speed trial for straight-out trotting stallions, and our local trotting stallion, Worthy Bingen, who is owned by Mr .T. IL Corrigan, and who is being kept under the care of Sam Smith, at Normanby, is to be given a riyj. Our local enthusiasts will be able to see what a wonderful horse he is. Some Jazz figures amongst the pacers in the nominations for the Otahuhu meeting, and, should he accept, this horse should be given a royal chance, as lie has won amongst the pacers in the South island, and, on liis present mark, seems to be nicely treated. lalaro has run very consistently thissouson, and should lie not win a stake at 1 lie Otahuhu meeting, he should be worth remembering in the future. ; ' Hullv Boy is a much improved horse since going into J. W. Thompson’s; stable, and before the season closes should reach good company. Kid Logan, a four-year-old mare by Logan Pointer, from Stanley’s Child, the da in of Waitahi Girl, has a fine turn:, of speed. Unfortunately Kid Logan is hot reliable at the barrier, and at the Oaniaru and Timaru meetings she misbehaved herself. Stanley’s Child was always a bad mare at the barrier, and Waitahi Girl,' too, is very unreliable. Curiously enough, when this year’s cup candidate came to her great speed, she improved, her manners at the barrier, and she now a good beginner.
