PATEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The month of October last has the record of being the wettest, month for over eight years, with the exception of January, 1923. During last month 9.50 inches of rain fell. November has started fairly well and, unless some alteration takes place, will run very close to October for honours. A team from the Waverley Rifle Club came to Patea and fired a match against the local club for the Taranaki Challenge Shield. The day was not the best for shooting, but nevertheless some good scores were registered. The visitors secured the shield by 12 points. The scores were : Waverley—R. Watkins 96, W. Alexander 93, S. Hone 91, W. Irvine 90, D. Whlk'or 90, Williams 90. Webster 87, T. Johnston 84; total 721. Patea —E. Thompson 95, D. Roots 92, A. J. Gibbs 91, G. King 91, C. Casev 89, M. Casey 89, P. Palmer 87A. Baldwin 75; total 709. The closing day of the Patea Golf Club took place 'on Saturday last, when a large attendance (including a number of visitors) was present. At the close of the play the club captain (Mr H. Findlay) presented the following prizes won during the season; Senior championship, Mr W. H. Rook; junior championship, Mr T. Honeyfield ; stroke championship (senior) for trophy presented hv Mr Rook. Mr N. Hunger; stroke championship (junior) for trophy presented by Mr N. Hunger. Mr H. Harris; mixed foursomes competition. Mi ss McGregor and Mr D. Finlay : approaching and nutting competition (ladies). Mrs R. P. Palmer ; approaching and putting competition (men). Mr Hamel. The local tennis courts are to be opened on Saturday next. The return euchre match between members of the Foresters and Druids Dodges will take place in the Town Hall supner room on Friday evening next. This year members have been granted the privilege of bringing ladies with them, and the innovation has proved to be in the right direction.
