“A MATTER OF BUSINESS." EFFECT ON TICKET SALES. LONDON. Oct. -its. Paderewski lias refused an invitation to broadcast his playing on the eve of his departure for Australia. He say* that the nervous strain before the microphone and the unusual environment would he intolerable, whereas a visible audience is inspiring to a pianist. Dame Clara Butt and Air Kennerley Rumford consider that artists ehotiid not broadcast until better financial arrangements have' been made. “It is a matter of business, pure and simple,” they say. ft is related that Dame Clara and Mr Rumford agreed to broadcast their farewell concert prior to their last visit to Australia, and not 10 tickets were sold during the two days between the broadcasting announcement and the concert. People naturally preferred to sit bv their firesides on a cold night.
