HAWERA RAILWAY STOCK YARDS
PROPERTY OCCUPIERS’ PETITION
Further ventilation of the complaints which have been made by propertyholders in the vicinity of the Hawera railway station concerning the inconvenience caused by the proximity of the st-ock yards was given at the monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, when a petition asking for action in the matter was received. The petition bore the signatures of 27 residents and occupiers of business premises in the locality, the text being as follows: _ / “We, being resident or occupied in i the vicinity of the Hawera railway station, desire to draw the attention of your Chamber to the nuisance occasioned by the stock yards erected by the Railway Department at the Hawera railway station. We would ask your executive to strongly urge the department to remove these yards from tlieir present location, as they are undoubtedly a menace to the health and comfort of residents in the locality.” In placing the petition before the Chamber, Air. B. C. Bennett said that people- in the locality had been eager to give their endorsement, and all interviewed had been anxious to secure relief from the nuisance complained of. It was decided to submit two copies of the petition to the Borough Council, and to request the council to make representations on the matter .to the health officer.
