ROSE IS COMING.
+ WILL COMPETE AT HA WEB A. EMPIRE-FAMED RUNNER. “Will compete in anything under three miles,” stated a telegram .received from the noted runner, R. A. Rose, today by the secretary of the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club (Mr G. H. Weir), in reply to an inquiry as to whether Rose could arrange to take the field at the meeting to be held under the club’s auspices on Wednesday, November 24, as the evening feature of the first day of the Egmont show at Hawera. As the only races other than sprints on the programme are a half-mile and a mile, the champion’s message indicates that he will appear in both these events. The holder of the Australasian and British Empire amateur record for the mile and the New Zealand champion and record holder for the mile and three miles, Rose is probablv the most famed athlete in New Zealand to-day, and his appearance at the Hawera meeting will be eagerly looked for by all followers of sport.
