BEAUTY COMPETITIONS.

Mr Hill, amid cheers from both sides of the House, asked the Hon. J. T. Lang if he had noticed a degrading tendency in a section of the metropolitan press, and if he thought competitions such, as “Miss Australia” and the “October Bride,” and a thousand others, wherewith they were threatened, had an uplifting tendency; if he was aware that this new journalism was being introduced in the interests of commercialism, and if it were not possible to take action to restore clean and healthy journalism. Mr Lang replied that he would give everv consideration, to the questions.
