A SWINDLE ALLEGED. LITIGATION PENDING. (BV TEr.rcr.llAFH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 4. Allegations of a bettiiWE swindle on a large scale have been revived. At Waitara some time ago proceedings were taken by 0. R. Uhlander against James Telfar, the plaintiff claiming £64 and alleging the defendant’s participation in a widespread and systematic scheme to defraud bookmakers by making bets after the result of a raee was known. Uhlamler’s claim was discontinued after sensational allegations had been made. The latest development is the issue of a writ on behalf of Ernest Johnston, claiming £l4B from Dennis George, on the ground that the defendant made a bet with the plaintiff that the horse Our Jack would win a certain race on July 10, and that- at the time defendant knew Our Jack had actually won the race. To-day another writ was filed on behalf of O. R. Uhlander and P. J. Flanagan against Janies. Telfar, claiming £62 -on similar grounds. The claimants state that they are taking the proceedings not for personal gain, hut as a protest against the, alleged swindle.
