ONE OR TWO FIXTURES. FUTURE TENDENCY STOCK BREEDER’S COMMENTS. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) .PALMERSTON N., Nov. .2. “I think the day is coming when agricultural and pastoral shows in the Dominion will resolve themselves into one or two main fixtures at the most suitable centres. Palmerston North must always remain one of these, and this is where the Royal Show, should be held every second year, alternating with one of the South Island centres.” The foregoing was the comment of Mr R. D. D. McLean, of Marekakaho, Hawke’s Bay, a prominent stock breeder who is visiting the spring show, when interviewed on various matters of agricultural and pastoral interest. Auckland, he stated, was too out of the way as a- Royal Show centre. It was too far to send stock there from the lower half of the North Island, and the risk of interruntion in the lines of communication with the northern centre was far greater than was, the case in transporting stock to Palmerston North. “Here you have a first-class ground, with splendid appointments. Auckland cannot bear all-round comparison with it. Palmerston North show grounds are the most iro to date in the North Island and ideally central for breeders,” he added.
