RESISTED 1 THE POLICE. (IIY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.') CIHRISTOHURCH, Oct. 19. Charles Routchelor. a warehouseman, was sentenced by the magistrate to thi-ee months’ hard labour for assaulting and resisting the police, in the execution of their duty. The evidence showed that Batchelor had been “mad drunk’’ outside a hotel and that a member of a hostile crowd attempted to free him from two constables. The magistrate commended the police for their restraint in an awkward situation.
