BOXING.

TROWERN BEATS MCCARTHY. LED ALL THE WAY. (by TELEGRAPH—press association.) . AYELLINGTON. Oct. 19 The Australian lightweight, Bert McCarthy (9.81) was decisively beaten on points by Reg. Trowern (9.111), of Auckland, in 15 rounds at the Town Hal 1 , last night. Although the bout was interesting throughout, it caused little excitement amongst a crowded house. It consisted mostly of in-fight-ing. Trowern did the attacking ana ied easily all the way. Each man was cautious for the whole bout. About the fifth round Trowern got the measure of his man and established a good lead. McCarthy improved his position in the last three rounds, but not sufficiently to gain the verdict, and the_ contest ended with Trowern attacking and vigorously using bis right, with which he scored many hits to the body and head. McCarthy sometimes surprised his man with left jabs, and altogether showed that he might easily b© seen to better advantage.
