FLYING IN AUSTRALIA.

HOW BUSINESS MEN SAVE TIME

The truth of that axiom that time is money is illustrated not only in the general use of motor-cars and other motor transport to-day, but in the increasing use of aeroplanes for purely business purposes. The sale of 40,000 sheep at Hay, in New South Wales, a few days ago, attracted buyers by aeroplane from various parts of Australia. One incident almost suggested a kinema stunt; it, certainly might have been made the setting for one. The auctioneer had started to knock down a line of close on 15000 wethers, when a ’plane broke through the clouds. The auctioneer announced that a buyer for the wethers was in the aeroplane. As soon as the machine had landed the buyer was rushed across to the sale, in a motor from the aerodrome some little distance away. As he stepped out of the car, the auctioneer announced: “I am offered 18s for 5000 wethers. Will you give £1 for them?” "Yes,” said the man. who had swept down in the aeroplane. The sheep were his. Thirtythree thousand station sheep were sold for £41,715 in less than an hour. The sheep men then hopped into waiting aeroplanes and left again for Melbourne and Adelaide. Judging from the number of the pupils of the Sydney Aero Club who are already making solo flights, flying is going to be very popular in New South Wales alike for pleasure and for annihilating distance outback.
