AUTOMOBILE AFFAIRS.
SOUTH TAR ANTE I ASSOCIATION. At the last meeting of the executive of the South Taranaki Automobile Association, Dr. Thomson, president, was m the chair, and there were also present : Dr. McGhie, Messrs J. A, Duff ill, G. J. Bayley, W. A. Spragg, E- P. Cox, L. 0. Hooker and the secretary (W. G. WalMeyJ. The annual meeting was fixed to be held on November 1 in the Borough Chambers. Messrs Cox and o‘Dea and Dr. Thomson were deputed to meet the bylaws committee of the Borough Council and discuss matters with them. The annual statement of accounts showed a strong financial position. In regard to sign-posts in Fate a area, permission was given by the Patea County Council to erect these -as required. It was decided to pay an honorarium of fifteen guineas to Mr A. J. Barr, , of Stratford, “and five guineas to Mr W. F. Sheild. of Patea, branch secretaries. A report was made in regard, to camping sites at Qpunake and Patea. SAFETY FIRST. Reference was made to a suggested newspaper campaign and featuring level crossing dangers in this district-. This was eventually deferred to the annual meeting. ASSOCIATION IN NORTH TARANAKI. ANNUAL MEETING. The president (Mr. W. O. Weston) was in the chair iat the (annual. meeting of the Automobile Association in North Taranaki. There was a large attendance of .members and their wives and. lady friends and the evening proved Very enjoy-able. In viewing the operations for the year the president- said tall should be proud of the work done in two years, resulting in a membership of six hundred. .He referred to the better obfservance of the by--laws in .town and Country-, which, lie added, had a very real .reason for their existence He entered, a special plea for Consideration by motorists to drivers of service oars and to* railway engine drivers by great care when passing and when crossing railway lines and for drovers and their dogs and stock. Hie made reference to the need for carrying a comprehensive policy on cars and added that the association and its ho-norary legal advisers would always be on the ’side of the motorist who exercised oare and had right on his isade. He thanked country members for attending and paid a special tribute to the secretary (Mr V. Duff) for Ihiis good work, and that of the organiser, Mr. 'Judd. •Mr. F. Aimoore said he saw. :in his travels round the country, much of the excellent work done by the association, especially that of signs on roads and bridges. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron. Dr. H,. B. Lealthiam; president ,Mr. F. H. Blundell; vice-presidents, Messrs W. R. 'Johns, R, H. Pipott and W. G. Weston; committee. After supper had been served a programme of enjoyable musical items was given and this concluded a good meeting.
