(To the Editor.) Sir, —<A social 'was held in Normanby a few nights ago with, the object of hel ping it he two local cyclists to compete in the big race in the South Island. Jffc was a public affair, but an uncalled for incident happened. At supper time speeches, etc., were made and responded to, in the supper-room, to the exclusion of about, forty people in the hall. AYliv the. differentiation? I know in CTat] places, such, things sometimes occur; bulfc 1 hope and trust never tto see. or hear; of, episodes of this kind again. Where does our boasted educational advancement, and our Christianity come in iLf this sort of thing is not protested against.
