CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL

A meeting of all interested in the Chhistmas festival was held in the Town Hall on Monday night, Air L. Walters presiding. The report of last year’s activities was adopted, and a discussion regarding the purchase of toys occupied the greater part of the evening. It was finally decided to spend about four time® the usual amount on toys, obtaining a better quality and a greater number.

The following committees were elected: —Buses, Messrs Walters and Greaves ; . toys, Mr Lew in and the secretary ; _ lollies, Messrs Y 7 Arrow and Davis; drinks, Mr Chisnall; lighting, Messrs Hunger and Yarrow. It was decided to again approach th e band for its services, also to ft.sk the local Choral Society if it would arrange a concert programme. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the !ftdy helpers for their past services. PUBLIC LIBRARY. Tlip, monthly meeting of the Manaia Public Library Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs T. A. Bridge (chairman), B. Badland, W. Vincent, J. Forrester, W. Snowden, J. A. G. Cosgrove, H. Mead and Dr. Drtvies.

A considerable amount of business was transacted during. th e evening in connection with the welfare of the Librai— including arrangements for increased book accommodation.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Poynter (who has ’eft Manaia) for past .services on the committee, and Mr H. Mead was elected on the committee in his plftce. It was resolved to apply to rta Waimate West County Council and Manaia Town Board for the usual annual subsidies.
