The handsome obelisk ait Dunedin in memory of tihe men who fell in <the Great War i.s now' near completion. It towers above the trees in the Queen’s Gardens and is an imposing; sight. The contnact price for the monument is £8450, of which .a little over £2OOO is still to be found. The date of the official unveiling of the memorial has not been isetitled. as it depends upon ■whether the Duke of York will accept the invitation to perform the ceremony. All but one of the private -bus services now running in opposition to the Christchurch Tramway 'Board are to be taken over by the board. Whether all or any will be continued by the board is at present problematical. No definite decision on the point will be reached until the board has ascertained from the private owners the earning powers of the services. The present sale is at the instigation of the private owners, and the eventual decision of the board, and/ the reasons weighing such decision, /will be awaited by the public with interest.
