A SISTER’S SACRIFICE

SYDNEY, Sept. 21. \ woman with a sad mission arrived bv the Sonoma to-day. By the same liner came the body of Mr J. U. McFarlane, a solicitor of Melbourne. The late. Air AlcFarlane left Australia- recently to marry Aliss Nellie Callaghan, an Australian girl, resident in Californai. He had been in the United States only a-few weeks when he became dangerouslv ill. , Aliss Elsie Callaghan, head nurse ot Franklin Hospital. San Francisco, a sister of Aliss Nellie Callaghan, volunteered for blood transfusion. 1 Three times her blood was drawn upon, but the surgeons were unable to save the life of the Australian. In the hope that she would be able to regain some of her lost strength the transfusion left her very weak the doctors recommended a sea voyage, and Aliss Callaghan elected to return to her' native land by the liner conveying the remains of her sister s fiancee.
