NORMANBY.

TOWN BOARD. ' At the monthly meeting of the Normanby Town Board held last night there were present: Commissioners C. J. Preston, J. P. Leydon, T. Lloyd, A. Galloway, and A. Hills. In proposing Commissioner Preston to be chairman, Commissioner Leydon referred to the good work Mr Preston had donc : in the past, and the very efficient manner in which he had carried out his duties as chairman. These remarks were endorsed, by Commissioner Lloyd, who seconded the motion, which was • carried. Commissioner Preston, in returning thanks, said ho was pleased to see so many of the members of the previous board returned to office. He welcomed the new member, Cr. Galolway, and said he felt sure he would ‘be a useful addition to the board. There were several matters which would require their attention, the principal one of which was improvements to the business portion of the town. The streets required rekerbing, and in this matter it was hoped to get the co-operation of the business people. ' The following committees were elected:—Works: Crs. C. J. Preston, J. P. Leydon, and T. Lloyd; Finance: Crs. C. J. Preston, and'A. Hills; Cemetery and Domain: Crs. C. J. Preston,. A. Hills, and A. Galloway.
A letter was received from the Dance Club enclosing £2 winch it had promised towards the installation of a sink at the hall. The club further donated the sum of £2 10s towards th(? purchase of a boiler and tea urn. The club wa-sr thanked for its donation, and the Works Committee was deputed to arrange for .the installation of a sink before next meeting. The District Railways Engineer wrote asking to have all previous correspondence placed before the new board and ascertain what steps it would take in connection with the closing of certain railway crossings. After considerable discussion, it was. decided to ask the engineer to meet the board to see what arrangements could bo made. A letter was received from Messrs Gateway and Sons asking for permission to instal a petrol Bowser. —The application was granted. On the motion of Crs. C. Preston and J. P. Leydon it was decided to offer Mr Simmons a renewal of the right to exhibit cinema pictures. Accounts amounting to £2Ol 2s 4d were passed for payment. DOMAIN BOARD. The Normanby Domain Board met last night, and decided to call tenders for the lease of Victoria Park for grazing purposes for tlio period of one year, commencing November 1, 1926. Tenders will be called later.
