AIANAIA v. WANGANUI. LADIES WIN MEN LOSE. Two hockey teams came up from Wanganui on Saturday, and played on the Al-anaia Domain. The' Tiki ladies’* team, which won the Wanganui competition, played the Manaia ladies, who won the South Taranaki event. Th© match resulted in a win for the local, side bv four goals to nil. The Old Boys team, front Wanganui, played against the Manaia men’s team, and secured an easv win by eight goals to two. MANAIA (4) v. Manaia played! with the euri at their backs in. Htv first spell. The first attack was launched by the visitors, who, beaded bv Miss Sampson, reached the home side’s circle. The Wanganui centre forward shot, but the ball went wide, and a 25 bully followed. Almost immediately the Manaia team gave a sample of wliat their forwards wfete capable of. Miss J. Miss Transcome wits temporarily laid out. The Manaia, team continued to retain the offensive. Miss Kiff, the AYanganui left wing, broke away, and i'cached the local team’s rear line of defence. Miss N. Hotter saved. The visitors maintained the pressure and secured the advantage of a. corner hit, but inaccurate stopping gave the defenders a, chance, to clear. A long period of defensive play by Manaia. ended, in an attack which, when fit- did develop, was of great strength. After conceding a corner, and having) the luck with a coupe of shots which went outside, Wanganui were put still further in arrears by a. splendid sho’t from blib etfoe of the circle hv Miss J. Hill. Miss AVnkeling and Miss, Bai nes broke away half a. dozen times and penetrated the focal half line, to be sent bac-k iinon. reaching the Manaia fullbacks. The Misses Ransom. D. Hotter and. J. Hill were associated in a clever piece of stick work, in which they maintained control on their .right wing till they reached • the shooting area. There Mis? D. They were early 'in action, with crisp connections between the half and forward dines,, and neat passing among the front division. They drew blood early in the spell through their centre - forward,- who used the first good chance he got to find tl’.e net.. Old Boys , 1 Manaia 0 A free hit gave Manaia a chance for some concertJd_ play, And they made their first effort of consequence against the visitors’ defence. The Atari a,ia. goafkeeper came out to. meet the shot, and for once was caught hesitating. Simmons scored. Old Boys 2 MauaiA .....' 0 Almost immediately the visitors repeated their .performance,- through the agency of Macdonald, Williamson, Heibner and Simmonds, the last-named putting tire finishing touch to the scoring attack. .Old Roys 3 : t Manaia 0 The Manaia half line had little idea of supporting its foliVbacks. The Manaia. custodian met several attacks in good form, kicking with determination, and' clearing powerfully. He was, however, unable to grapple with a hot one sent in by Macdonald from tire right wing.
