KAPONGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The following members of the Kaponga Fire, Brigade yesterday attended the funeral of the late Fireman Allen, at New Plymouth: Firemen F W. Blaewell, H. Hawke, R. Jones, H. Kellow, G. Noonan, R. Paseoe, J. Scanlon, .Messengers iS.. Blackwell and. R. Noonan. Mr Trevor Howard, of the firm of Davison and Kehely, left this morning for a two weeks’ sojourn in the South Island. Mr Howard intends visiting the West Coast, afterwards proceeding to Christchurch. He will witness the Timaru to 'Christchurch road race. Mr J. F. Ryan left for Wellington on Saturday on a 'business- mission.Very good entries have been received for the forthcoming pedigree Jersey bull sale at aKponga. Mr J. Murphy has completed the ploughing of Victoria 'Park. Rolling, discing, and sowing, will be pushed on, and it is anticipated that a much improved playing area will 'be available for Kaponga’s great seven-a-side Rugby tournament -at Easter. The custodian of the local bowling green and croquet lawns reports, favourable conditions for an early start. Practices will probably commence at about the middle of next month. The devotees of tennis are now seizing every opportunity to use the local courts.

Several -prominent Kaponga cricketers intend throwing in their lot with Stratford this season.
