The death is announced from Sydney of Captain R. Neville, formerly master of several Union Company steamers. He had! command of the troopship Mil-l-ochna during the war. Mr W. A. Low,, who has brought many high-class l theatrical attractions to Hawera, is at present in town making arrangements for the appearance of Miss Muriel Starr, at the Opera House, oil Friday, October 1. Commissioner James Hay, Mrs. Hay and their .son and daughter arrived at Wellington by the Ulimaroa- to-day .to take charge of the Dominion Salvation Army.
Lady Cecil, vice-chairman of the Society for Overseas Settlement of British Women, is at -present in Wellington. She was entertained by the Victoria, League and Pioneer Club yesterday. She gave ian interesting address on the work that was' being carried out by the society and expressed appreciation of the hearty welcome given to -her everywhere she had visited in the Dominion. The late Mr Alfred Morton, whose death yesterday is referred to on page 4, saw active service with the Imperial Army Medical Corps throughout the South African War, and since taking up residence in the Dominion had been a member of the South African Van Veterans’ Association- of New Zealand. Military honours are to be observed at his funeral, which leaves his .late residence, 5 Collins street, at 3 p.m. tomorrow, and all members of the association,, ns well as 1 veterans of theMaori and European Wars, are invited to attend.
