STOCKING THE STREAMS.
WORK OF ACCLIMATISATION
SOCIETY
The liberation of brown trout yearlings from the Hawera hatchery finished for this season on Wednesday last, when the W'aingongoro stream received its usual quota. These yearlings wore distributed .throughout this stream from just above its mouth to just below the. pipe bridge. The balance of the yearlings have also been liberated. A strong endeavour has been made by the local society for many years past to acclimatise rainbow trout in'local streams but without success. Many years back liberations of rainbow fry were made, and of more recent years liberations as yearlings took place, but unfortunately all to no purpose. These rainbow only stav in the stream's until early in the following season after liberation, then they disappear. The rainbow yearlings liberated this season have all been placed in the dams and lakes throughout- the district. Robertson's lake's on the Manawapou Road received an unusually heavy supply with the hope that it may result in good rainbow trout fishing close to Hawera.
