LOOSENING WHEEL STUD-NUTS

Reference has been made in these notes previously to the difficulty which is sometimes experienced in undoing wheel stud-nuts when, perhaps, a change of wheel has not been made for several thousand miles, and a useful tip may be passed on. The ease with which the nuts can be taken off will be increased if the car is allowed to jog along until it comes to rest more or less naturally, and whereas this may at first appear to be bad for the tyre, it is not so bad as violent braking on a deflated tube, which often tends to drag both cover and tube round and to increase the minor damage which: is- already done. The jogging which the wheel receives as it bumps along on the nm seems to have the effect of “unbinding” the stud-nuts.
