“BOBBY” CALVES.
CHARGES OF CRUELTY. INFORMATION DISMISSED. “My opinion is that defendants did hot cause the animals to be carried in -suich> a wav as to cause unnecessary suffering, and the informations will be dismissed,” said Air R. W. Tate, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Eltham this afternoon, in summarisiing the evidence presented in the cases preferred by the S.P.C.A. against "William Leonard Blennerhassett, of Eltham, -and Edward Godfrey, of- Ha- ■ wera, agents of the Patea Farmers’ Co-op. Freezing Company, Ltd., who were charged with causing truckloads of calves to be conveyed ini such a manner as to subject them to unnecessary suffering. The -action was takenr on 'behalf of the S.P.C.A. -by Captain J. Henry, the society’s inspector, of Wellington. Defendants' were represented -by Air F. C. Spratt, of Hawera. The charges related to three truck toads of calves, containing 45, 43, and! 11 calves respectively, which were sent to the works from Normanby and Ha- i wera on August 31.
