IN RUSSIAN DISASTER
CROWDED SHIP SINKS
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. MOSCOW, Aug. 30. It is now announced that 160 person's perished when the passenger steamer Burevestenik collided, with the mole as she was leaving Leningrad for Kronstadt. The accident occurred in a dense fog. The ship sank in 15 minutes.
There were 563 passengers aboard at the time of the disaster The lifeboats saved 285. and many others saved themselves. The majority of the passengers were inhabitants of Kronstadt, who were returning with their families after spending Sunday in Leningrad. The heroism of the sailors, many of whom perished, prevented the boilers from exploding, and saved niany .of the women and children. Panic prevented the lowering of any of tlie Burevestenik’s boats. The captain’s wife and children were asleep in a locked cabin, the. key of which was kept by the captain, who perished.
