REV. H. J. FLETCHER’S ARTICLE

A READER’S APPRECIATION

i. ; (To the Editor.) \ Sir, —-May I express, tlimigh your columns, my appreciation of your very interesting articles on “Aotea-Roa” and the great deal of good that should emanate from these writings? The Rev. H. J. Fletcher’s contriautioir is a splendkkone, and I trust >tiat more from his pen will be seen in -tie paper. I .compliment the Hawera Star on the. publication of articles on this educational and national subject, -aid, like other writers, think it is the duty of the Education Department to teach our children the correct meaning and pronunciation of Maori name# and places. Move’s the pity that,! if we are not very careful, the native language and its traditional histoiy will fade into oblivion before many more years are past. I trust other able writers wit contribute to your already looked for columns under the title of “A>-tea-Roa.” Thanking you.—l am, efc.,’ PAKEHA MAORI STUDENT. Hawera, Aug. 31. . i j
