TE ROTI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS BALL. A plain and fancy dress ball' was held in the local hall on Tuesday, 17th hist., and- from, every paint, of view proved a huge success. The floor was crowded with dancers. There was « good, array of fancy costumes, some causing' a great deal of amusement. Two costumes that took the public eye were persons dressed in men’s suits with coats buttoning- up at the back and huge Guy Fawkes masks worn both back and front. Speelulation was life regarding the identity of the wearers and' one gentleman, was observed to raise gently a trouser leg of a masked one and thus disclose a neat lady’s ankle. The ladies, who were local, are to be congratulated on their costumes. Prizes for best fancy costume (ladys and gent’s) were won by Mr. Jack Cocker-ton and Mrs. J. S. Barrow, Pierrot and Pierrette. Winners of the novelty dances were: Monte Carlo, -Mr Bert Rees-by and' Miss I. Matthews; spot waltz, Mr. Les Crann and partner. The halL was tastefully decorated foilin' occasion, its appearance reflecting great credit on the committee responsible. Extras for the evening were supplied by Mrs. Bennett and Miss Arden and Mr Wills. EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. The final euchre party and dance of the season was held here on the 24th inst., and, although adverse weather conditions- prevailed, there was a fair attendance. Euchre prizes were won by Miss I. Matthews and! Mr. Alex Telfer. Music for the dance was supplied by Mrs. G.. Fowler. During the evening Mrs. G. Fowler and Mrs. R. G. Coe.kerton were the recipients of presents, having throughout the season supplied’, gratis,' music for the euchre dances. GENERAL. Spring is here once more and the blaring of calves- proclaims the commencement of another busy season. So far the, weather, has been very mild andl farmers are congratulating themselves on coming through the winter with plenty of feed/ to spare. The rigours of last spring- are still fresh in the minds of all and consequently most “cockles” have ample feed for this spring. The local factory is still separating milk, but is. I understand, commencing the manufacture of cheese on the first of the coming- month. Chou moellier, as a milk-producing fodder, has come to. the fore- andi many a patch of it- is to be. seen in and around this district. In most cases one pound; of seed to the acre is sown, but the writer has a crop of Chou Moel13er sown at the- rate of two lbs to the acre and the milking cows find the thin, tender stalks very succulent. The crop is six feet in height- and was sown with manure—blood and bone, three cwt. per acre, in fourteen inch rows. Recently a party from this district journeyed to Tolcaora to tin-can Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cleaver, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. All Te Roti residents wish- the couple health and happiness in their new home. The engagement is announced of Miss Ivy Matthews, elder daughter of Mr. and" Mrs. S. Matthews, of this district. to Mr. 'Bert Reesbv, of Inglewood.
