Lieutenant O. R. F. Tilley, of the 2nd N.Z. Mounted Rifles (Queen Alexandra’s Wellington West Coast) has been promoted to lieutenant, with seniority as from July 9, 1923, and is seconded for services with the Ist G Battalion.

Air G. H. Hutton, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand; at New Plymouth, has been appointed manager of the branch at Opunake. He will'takeup his new duties immedifttely. The Rev. H. AV. Monaghan, - vicar of St. Alary’s, was a. passenger for Wellington by the mail train this morning. He will attend a meeting of the standing committee of tlie Wellington Diocese, .and return to Hawera on Wednesday.

The Rev. A. AV. Payne, sub-warden of St. John’s College, Auckland, has been a visitor to Hawera over the week-end. He preached at St. Alary’s last evening. This morning he proceeded to Palmerston North .

He was born at C-hatlvam Islands in 1824, and was a. descendant of the supreme lord. Rangiha.ua, who was the original owner of the Chatham, Islands. Tuna Tarnhina lived in Taranaki during the Maori War, and enlisted with the Imperial troops with 15 others and was engaged in. many skirmishes against Titokowp.ru.
