The -boxing championships were continued to-night. The results were: Middleweight. —S. Byrne (Manawatu) beat Tierney (Taumarunui), A. Cleverly (Wellington) beat G. Gordon (Napier), C. Pocock (Christchurch) beat A. Johansen (Wellington), La Rousse (Auckland) beat Jaggers (Christchurch). Lightweight.—H. Ivindley (Otago) beat E. Downes (Manawatu), L. Phillips (Hastings) beat C. Broadfoot (Auckland). W. Carey (Christchurch) beat A. Hawse (Westport), Morgan (Wellington) beat Musson (Hastings). Bantams.—F. Taylor (Auckland) beat J. Evans (Levin), D. Kilpatrick (Wellington) Avon by default from F. Curran (Gisborne), Kiely (Greymouth) beat Hoskin (Wanganui). FIyAA-eight —Purton (Greymouth) beat F. CONTROL OF THE SPORT
CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES
NAPIER', Aug. 27. The annual conference of -the New Zealand Boxing Association wa,s held in Napier to-day, Air. J. Vigor RroAvn being the president. Delegates' Avere present from all parts of the Dominion. In A’iew of bad decisions having at times -caused' dissatisfaction, Air. G. Hale (Ghn-stchurch) moved that a special meeting of judges and referees be held as -a first -step -towards forming a Referees’ Association. The motion was carried.
The following resolution was also unanimously carried: “That this meeting of representatiA'es of the New Zealand Boxing Association strongly supports the efforts now being made by the .council of the association to assist in 'raising funds to secure adequate representation of the Dominion at- the next Olympic 'Games, and pledges itself to render all possible financial aid Avhen any concrete proposal is forthcoming.’’ The election of officers resulted asfolloav : President, Air. S. A. Lindsay (Invercargill); v ice-presidents 1 , Messrs'. F. J. Campbell (Dunedin) and Al. Trestou (Napier); appeal committee, Messrs. V. R. Meredith, H. AleKenr.ie and E. A. Craig (Auckland); council, Dr. P. F. MeEvedy (chairman), Messrs. D. G. Hoggard, J. R>. Simpson, E. Blundell, E. A. Dawson, J. W. Heenau and Colonel R-. St. J. Bee re.
Mr. W. G. Talbot (Wellington) moA red (1) “That it be recommended to the council that professional licenses be issued to professionals only for contests promoted -by affiliated associations, and that all future licenses should clearly state that no professional should accept engagement Avithout first ascertaining that the association under Avlrich he proposes to compete is duly affiliated under the New Zealand Boxing: Association -rules, and that such association is empowered under those rules to promote professional contests such as he proposes to engage in.” (2) “That it be a recommendation to the council that future iapplications for affiliation by an association be only granted subject to the proviso that no such association shall;, promote- any professional contest except at the discretion of the council.” Air. T. Donovan (Hawke’s Bay) gave notice to move that professional purses be limited to- £l5O with no- expenses.
