'WELLINGTON CRITICISM: RESENTED.

NAPIBIt, Aug. 27. The Hawke’s Bay Ilugby Union tonight deferred its decision on. the question as to whether or not the Bunfurl v Shield 1 will bo taken with the team on its southern tuor. The chairman; said they should send a. good team to keep faith w'tili the southerners whether the shield goes or not.

Hawke’s Bay is up in arms concerning the serious allegations in a certain section of the Wellington press which have been made against the Hawke's Bay players in the recent Itanfur 1 y Shield match against 'Wellington. So as to afford some protection to their plovers/ the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union took the matter up last evening, and were loud in their condemnation. of the allegations made. Mr N. A. McKenzie, the Hawke’s Bay selector, even went so far as to suggest that the union should; cancel the match to be played in Wellington on October 2, as it was evident that the Hawke’s Bay team would he subjected to much abuse if it took the field. The decision of the union, however, was to appoint Messrs .T. W. Norrie, ,T. IV. Callaghan and. W. Anderson (secretary) a special committee to draw up a. reply to. the various newspaper articles anpearing which were derogatory to Hawke’s Bay representative football. The decision ns to whether the return match with Wellington will be played was also left to that committee.
