THE NEPIA CASE. (by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AVELLINGTON, Aug. 26. The New Zealand Rugby Union has decided to inform the Hawke’s BayUnion, which had complained of Nepia’s proceedings being mentioned' in tlie press, that the statements in the newspapers' were not inspired by any indivdiual member of the management committee, also that to the best of tlic tniion’s knowledge Nepia. didl not get any further than Hastings on his journey to AA’elliiigton, from which it was inferred that Mr Turet had been misinformed. The Hawke’s Bay Union will also he informed that Nepia. was not supplanted in the Maori team for France against his wish.
GIFT TO FRANCE. MAORIS PRESENT SHIELD. AVELLTNGTON, Aug. 26. The Maori Advisory Board ha.s prepared a shield, decorated with symbolic Maori carving, for presentation, to the French Rugby Federation in commemoration of its invitation to send a. ATaori team to France. The shield is now in Wellington, and after the final touches have been added will lie '.submitted 1 to the New Zealand' Union for approval. As the offer lias met with coirsiidurable appreciation, approval is not likely to be withheld. The shield will probably be forwarded through the. High Commissioner.
