IMMIGRATION LAW

AMERICAN PROBLEMS. EFFECT OF POLICY PROSPERITY INCREASED. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. VANCOUVER, Aug. 17. “O'ur immigration policy is responsible for prosperity by raising wages and the standards of living,” declared the United States Secretary for Labour, Mr. J. J. Davis, in a speech here to-day. He reiterated that there was no intention of enacting an immigration law which would exclude Canadians. “We are only seeking exactly what Canada, Australia and New Zealand Ifd.ve had- for a. long time. Under the present law we cannot exclude immigrants so long as they comply with the regulations. “Our present problem, is with the influx of Mexicans who- compete against our own workers and create a situation nearly as serious as the Orientals do in Canada.”
