SMOKE CONCERT.

FRASER ROAD FOOTBALL CLUB. A smoko concert was held last evening by the Fraser Road Football Chub. Mr R. G reen bank presided over a good attendance' of elub members and Wednesday competition players. After the Loyal toast, Mr S. Thrush proposed the health of the 1 Taranaki Rugby Union. He expressed appreciation of the work clone. ,by the parent body, and hoped that it 'would allocate more mutches to South Taranaki. In reply, Mr J. J. Goodwin said this, was the first occasion be had had of speaking to the, winners! of the: Wednesday competition. He congratulated Fraser Road upon winning the ■shield. The Taranaki! Rugby Union was out to do its best for the game. At the start of last year the union had a debit balance of £3OO. At present it was in the fortunate position of having £IOOO in hand. Probab'y th© whole of this amount would ibe de-

voted to fostering, football. A couple of years ago A and l B representative teams bad been sent on! tfcrar. Possibly next year the programme: would include a junior representative team’s tour, which would occupy a fortnight, and include matches as far south us Palmerston North, and up to Te Kuiti. The team would he chosen from all the junior Taranaki teams, including 'the Wednesday clubs. The timer of the senior representative team next year would be to the South Island, and would .require a. lot of money. If Fraser Road had played a® well at the close of the competition as it had played earlier, it would probably have met New Plymouth High iSchfcol in the final. /The speaker said’ that the Rugby Union was: particularly concerned in helping the junior and lower grade teams, if these, were looked after th©' seniors would take care of themselves. He would like to see more teams in the Wednesday competition, which cow'd, be extended th two divisions. Players were available at Mana.ia,, Maunt alii and Mokoia. Teams in these localities ishould get a, good deal of support. The Wednesday competition wou'd now go ahead, .because it had its own management. The Rugby Union found out this year what a success the maid-week matches were. The junior competition in South Taranaki had. been divided: into two divisions, and this had, resulted l in less expense and travelling. At the Winter Show .a meeting, between the Rugby Union and the delegates from th© Wednesday organisation had been held, and an arrangement had: been agreed upon. Mr Goodwin congratulated the Fraser Road executive on looking after the team when, at home and away. The afternoon tea, provided by the Indies of Fraser Road had been very acceptable. Mr A. H. Clarke, president of the Eraser Road Club, in proposing the health of the Wednesday Union, said it had don©, its duty hv all the. clubs. Mr ,S. Thrush, in reply, said the Wednevdm- official® did their best to settle disputes. They had had a difference with the Rugby Union, hut ait a meeting an understanding had been arrived at. Now the Wednesday body dealt with it« own oases and 1 forwarded a, written report to. the. Rugby Union. Fra.ser Road had not had its line crossed in the competition, it had won this season. In view of the prospective junior representative, team, it behoved nil members of the club to maintain their form. Air D. Straelna-n. president of the City Cluh. proposed n torst t>> the Fraser Road Cub. He said the winners had done remarkably well, 'especially for a . country team.
