MUNICIPAL BAND.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the citizens’ committee of the Hawera. Municipal Band was held in the band room on Monday evening. Mr. E. Dixon presided over a good attendance. It was decided to take out an insurance policy on the instruments. I connection with the visit of the band to the Wellington contest, it was resolved to. inaugurate a contest fund. The following were appointed a committee to supervise the arrangements for the annual hall, which will be held at an early date: Messrs. L. Harding, C. Taylor, Franks, F. Baker, Bell, and a W. Hawkins (secretary).
The conductor’s report for the month of July stated that ten parades had been held, and two public performances given. The number of public performances would have been augmented, but for the prevalence of sickness among the members. The junior band was making steady progress and had now made its first public appearance. The music ordered from Boosey and Co., London, had arrived, and practise of some of it- had already commenced. The roll of the senior band now stood at 31 members, and that the junior hand at 28 —a total of 59 players. After the- meeting the monthly inspection of instruments and uniforms was carried out under the supervision of Drum-Major Bell and Sergeant Pearce. The inspection will he continued on the first Monday in every month. A short address on the care of instruments was given bv the conductor, Mr H. C. A.’ Fox.
