RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL. BRILLIANT FUNCTION. (From Our Own Corersponclent.) Previous records for the: annual ball held under the auspices of the Manilla branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association—always a popular function—wore eclipsed last when the 1-926 effort was- held in the Town Hall. Amid the gorgeous -decorations arranged a willing band- of helpers, dancing on- a perfect floor was indulged in until -an, early hour this morning -by the large crowd present, which included visitors from all parts of South Taranaki. Surmounted by a huge, gaily coloured dome, from which were suspended streams of red, blue, gold and green to all pants of the hall, the- ballroom presented, an extremely bright appearance, the- arrangement of greenery alternately with coloured shields 'along the walls standing- out in distinct contrast. A. neat arrangement of coloured lights completed the scheme. The stage was doeoracd with: greenery .and streamers similarly artistically s-ct out. The ballroom decorations- were arranged by members- of the association under the control of Mr S. Greaves; the supper room by Mrs -T. B. Badland and assistants; and the stage by Mrs James Anderson and. assistants. Under the control of Mrs J. A. Hausen, assisted by Mesd'ames D. Mitchell, L. -Simons, T. Hotter. B. Badland, W. Borrie, C. S-proulL, T. A. Bridge, J. Haviter, W. Murray, Misses B. Bridge, M. Long. J. Borrie, Hotter (2), M. Hansen, M. Rowe and L. Murray, a sumptuous supper, which drew man) expressions of delight from the dancers, was provided. Splendid music was supplied by Boulton's full orchestra, and a number of those* present assisted with extras. Every comfort of the dancers was attended to by the following, who capably fulfilled the duties of M’s.C.: Messrs- J. H. Anderson, K. Murray, W. J. Laing, S. 11. Greaves, L. Simons. J. Millar and L. C. Watson. Special credit for the success of the function is due to the secretary, Mr S. Blair, for the. able and efficient manner in which he discharged his many duties .'and to the social committee controlling the ball. PRESIDENT -HONOURED.

Prior to the ball, members of the association gathered l at their meeting room and joined in congratulating the president, Mr James Anderson, on Ins recent marriage. Mr -S. IT. Greaves, who made a. presentation .of a set of cutlery, eulogised the work done on behalf of the association by Mr Anderson, and referred to the high esteem with which lie was regarded by fellow members. On behalf of his comrades, lie wished Mr and Mrs Anderson the best of luck and happiness. Air Anderson suitably replied, thanking members for tlieir expressions of goodwill.
