HOCKEY.
MAX AT A BEAT KAPONGA. At Kaponga, on Wednesday, Malinin, defeated Kaponga in a shield match by three goals to one. The winners played a. superior game throughout, the home team lacking their usual dash. For Manaia goals were scored' in the first spell by Misses Ruby and: Julia. Hall, and Miss Langford notched one in the second., MissV. Melville scored for Kaponga. Several players sustained minor injuries during t.liO' game, and nearing the end Miss- V. Melville had to retire injured, her place being taken by Miss ITislop. Messrs. 0. Freei and - T. Miller controlled the match.
Mr ft. J. Catran, ITawera, one of the district selectors, was an interested spectator.
