CYCLING.

KAPONGA AND MAXAIA CLUBS

AMALGAMATION ANNULLED

A mooting of the Kaponga Cycle Club was held, last evening. There were present: Messrs A. Melville, (chairman), E. W, Blackwell, IT. Hawke,, W. J. Noonan, R. IT. L. Roberts, If. Boeoek (members of the executive), and 13 members of the club. The chairman, in announcing the. amalgamation of the. Kaponga. and, Manaia Clubs, stated that a. number of members had. taken exception to the. movement. It was for those present to endorse the action of the executive or move to rescind, the same.

Mr Roberts, who seconded the motion for amalgamation fit- the .joint meeting:, explained 1 that lie acted, in good faith, being quite unaware that t’ne proposition was viewed with disfavour by a number of members. He understood that the executive attended the meeting with a. free hand and that the Manaia delegates made a correct statement, of the numerical and financial strength of the club. .Since that meeting fresh light had been thrown on these matters. Mr 11. «T. Blackwell moved that the

amalgamation of the Kaponga and Manaia, 'Cycle Clubs be annulled. Seconded 1 bv F. Litchwark.

Several present spoke in favour of tliei motion.,

The chairman said he had entertained hopes of the formation of one good strong club, as against two comparatively weak ones, but it now appeared that, a feeling existed against the proposal. On being put,' the motion was carried bv 15 to 4.

The following committee was appointed to make: arrangements, for card tournaments' in aid of the club’s funds: Messrs J. and S. Blackwell, H. Ilawke, It. Jones, F. Litchwark and J. Sullivan.

Mr E. W. Blackwell offered to supply two dozen small cakes for each tournament, and Mr If. J. Blackwell agreed; to pay the hall rent for the second! tournament.

Mr E. \V\, Blackwell announced that an anonymous donor had given a trophy for allotment to the previously unplaced rider, under 17 years of age. who makes the fastest time in the club’s next race.

Yotcs of thanks to the foregoing donors concluded the' meeting.
