PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

TARANAKI COUNCIL. At the ordinary meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Jersey Council at New Plymouth yesterday there ivere present: Messrs H. 0. Sampson (chairman), S. J. Hollard and A. L. Hooper (Kaponga Club), A. H. Hunt (Stratford Club), F. W. Cornwall and J. Petersen (New Plymouth Club), and E. Griffiths, a member of the Neiv Zealand Council. Apologies iveve received from Messrs H. Lcpper and E. O’Sullivan. A resolution of sympathy was passed with Mr F. W. Cornwall in the loss of his brother. _ , After considerable discussion it was resolved to withdraw and place before clubs’ annual meetings a remit that the N.Z. Council be recommended to increase the subscriptions to £1 11s per member,. 10s to go to the district club. This, it was considered, would go a long way towards putting clubs on a satisfactory basis. The question of dates of recent pedigree Jersey sales was considered because dissatisfaction -ivas said to exist in that some private breeders jvanted to come in before the club sales. The chairman said that this dissatisfaction existed in Kaponga district, but that in North Taranaki the club sales had come in before the private breeders. He urged that next year it would be a good idea for breeders who ivere first this season to drop back for next year.

A suggestion made that a period, say of six weeks, should elapse between the North and South Taranaki sales, and an understanding be reached in the matter. ’ ,

Mr Hunt said that there should be some means of fixing the dates so as to avoid clashing or dissatisfaction. . Mr Hollarcl was of the opinion that the position in Kaponga was not likely to recur in the matter of clearing sales. Eventually an agreement was made to hold a conference in February .between representatis es of the various Jersey cattle clubs and the auctioneers to arrange sale dates. '
