GIRL GUIDE MOVEMENT.
PROGRESS IN HAAVERA. The Hawera Company of Girl Guides is fast settling into training. The girls meet every Saturday ai'ternioon at the Scout Halt in Albion street for instruction. Last Saturday afternoon Mrs Henderson was in charge, and it was very interesting to see the progress the girls had l made with the subjects of their first entrance test — the tenderfoot. This test embraces a knowledge of the Guide promise and the Guide law, the composition and 1 history of the flag, a variety of useful knots, certain Guide signs and a number of whistle signals. Many of the girls are quite’ at home with these.
The Brownies’ section gives ’every promise of being very popular with-the girls under 11. On Saturd’ ay the Brown Owl, Miss D. A. Corrigan, had 1 about 30 Brownies l to join in the fun. She was assisted by Miss Ruth Mills. Airs E. A. Pacey, president of the local association, was present at Saturday’s parade. A general meeting of the local association has been arranged for to-mor-row afternoon at 3.45 o’clock, at the Borough Council Chambers, to consider the report of progress to date and; also to make arrangements for the enrolment ceremony, which will shortly he held. The District Commissioner of the Girl Guide movement in Taranaki is expected in Hawera at an early date to enrol officers and Guides who arre ready with their tenderfoot test. After the first enrolment, the local officers will be authorised to carry out future enrolments of Guides. A full attendance of tli© local; association is 'desired at to-morrow’.s meeting, and all interested in the movement are earnestly invited to be present. The movement is an entirely undenominational one, and is worthy of the supportof alii interested in girls’ welfare.
