BOARDINGHOUSE BURNT.
BLAZE AT ArARTON. (BV TELEGRAPH PRESS' ASSOCIATION.) MA.RTON, June 14. A fire early on Sunday morning, gutted the Tixieadero boarding-house, ah old two-storied wooden building at Alarton Junction. Seventeen occupants escaped in their night attire, unhurt, except Patrick Fogarty, aged 30, a. railway employee, who was severely burned about the legs, and J. Quinn, aged 42, a. labourer, who sustained injuries through falling to the ground from the top storey. Both are progressing satisfactorily. The glare of the flames lit the country for miles around, and hundreds who gathered in the vicinity saw the firemen’s futile efforts. Nothing was saved. An adjoining residence was saved, though badly damaged by water. The hoarding-house was owned by Mrs. Wiinsch, of Palmerston North. No particulars of the insurance wefe available. The damage is estimated at £3OOO.
