BURGLARY AT INAHA.

RIVERDALEi STORE ENTERED. CASH AND GOODS MISSING. During the hours of darkness last night a burglar ar burglars forced an entry into the Riverdale Co-op. Dairy Company’s store at Inaha and succeeded in removing a quantity of cash and goods, the value of which has not as yet been fully ascertained. A sum of £3 10s in notes and coin belonging to the Post Office, which is operated in conjunction with the store, is missing, and certain amounts of tobacco and men’s clothing, trousers, hoots, etc., as well as some electric torches, are known to have been taken, but the. full extent of. the spoils garnered through the nocturnal visitation will not be ascertained until the stock in the store lias been checked. Judging by signs discovered by- the secretary (Air. W. R. O. Spooner) on going to the store this morning, entry was effected by breaking the glass pane of a window and slipping the catch, and the lock of a sliding door in the rear of the building wasi forced to give egress with the stolen property, the door .being open this morning when the secretary- arrived. Air. Spooner, who had occasion to visit the store just before dark last evening, found everything then intact. The missing money was taken from a cash, box in the office. An attempt was also made to secure the contents of the till, hut the operator was unable to open the drawer, which, with its contents untouched, was found jammed this morning. Owing to the detached position of the store, on the side of -a country* road, there was little likelihood during the time at which the burglary- was committed of the marauders being disturbed, and the stormy conditions which prevailed last night would be still fnr T tlier in their favour. Directly the discovery was made this morning, the police were communicated with and investigations are proceeding.
