RIFLE SHOOTING.
I»ATEA ASSOCIATION’S MEETING. EXCELLENT MARKSMANSHIP. Pop the tenth year the annual meeting of the Patea Rifle Association was a. great success, and brought out a lot of good shooting. Under the most favourable auspices, the weather being fine, though a little dull, while there was practicably no wind, the meeting was held at the Patea range- yesterday. Competition was very keen and the shooting reached a high standard, as well be seen by the scores recorded. The meeting was excellently managed and went like clockwork,' and for this excellent organisation the committee. president (Mr C. R. Honeyfield). supervisor (Mr M. Carey), and hon. secretary (Mr C. Carey) were responsible, though their work was much facilitated by the assistance of many other helpers on the range, at the firing mounds, and at the targets. Everything went smoothly and expeditiously, and. competitors all spoke very highly of the treatment they received. The entries were good, 75 in all. It was remarkable tlie number of high scores made. The catering in the hands of Mr H. J. Thomas was- well done, and this was a convenience much appreciated by competitors and spectators. The work of the men at the targets, too. was good, and gained many encomiums from marksmen. WANGANUI MATCH. 300yds. Ten shots each, one sighter. F. Hogg (New Plymouth), £4 48 G.
