The record score for Ranfurly Shield matches, and probably' also for interprovincial Rugby, was registered by Hawke’s JBay against Wairarapa in the first shield match of the season to-day, when the defenders rattled on 17 tries, 13 of which were converted (7 7 points), against the challenger’s two tries (one converted) and two penalty goals (14). Grenside and M. Brownlie each scored 19 points for Hawke’s Bay, the former with one try and eight conversions. and the latter with three tries and five conversions. Blake scored live tries, Cooke three, Corkil! two, and Tait, C. Brownlie and Craven one each., CANTERBURY BEAT WELLINGTON. CHRISTCHURCH, June 3.
