NEW YORK BUDGET. FRENCH WAR DEBTS. BIG LOAN SUGGESTED. (BY TELEQHAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, June 4. The following news items were broadcasted from the New York Times building by the Australian Press Association and picked up by Mr Shrimp-ton, junior:— Washington, 3rd. —By a. vote ot 236 to 111. the House of ’Representatives approved of the war debt agreement between tho United States and France. The agreement, which provides that France shall pay the United States 6,847,000 dollars over a .period of 62 years,’ now l goes oil to the Senate. The vote of that body will be withheld, pending the approval of the agreement bv the French Parliament. Chicago, 3rd. —A poll of students in thirty-seven representative. American colleges and universities, conducted under the auspices of the Proportional Representation League and Professor R. L. Molt, a political scientist, showed that 22 per <ent. of those voting were dissatisfied with the present Prohibition. situation, and more than) 53 per cent, favoured the modification or repeal of the Prohibition ’aw. New York, 3rd.—Reports are current that France will soon obtain a large international loan or credit amounting to possibly 300,000,000 dollars. It is not.howevor, expected that such financing wil 1 be arranged until the French debt settlement- is ratified. —It is announced that the Canadian Minister of Finance intends to ask authorisation for a lean of 150,(XX),000 dollars.
