JERSEY BREEDERS’ ASSN.

ANNUAL REPORT. INCREASES IN ALL DEPARTMENTS. A copy of the annual report of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders-’ Association, which will be presented at a meeting of the members to be held at Palmerston North on July 1, has been forwarded to this office. The council of the association announces another successful year’s operations, with increases in all departments. The membership has now reached 1448. Registrations of animals during the year eclipse all previous ligures by 773, being 3477 males and 5301 females, a total of 8778. * Transfers increased by 944 over the previous term’s figures, and included 3292 males and 3431 females. The increase in transfers indicated the growing demand for Jerseys—-the product of the association’s publicity campaign. During the year ended December 31, 1925, first-class certificates were gained by 599 animals under S.O. test, 98 of Which were second, third or fourth records. and 445 exceeded the minimum qualification by at least lOOlbs fat. Despite the fact that the standard set by f-iie gold medal winners in recent years was exceptionally high, two new records were established. In the iunior two-vear-old class Keston Flower, owned by Mr G. E. Yelehich, produced 694.281b5* fat. and in the class for cows five years and over Holly Oak’s Annie, owned by Mr AY. T. Williams, produced 1056.491bs fat. These two cows earned the special prize of £lO for exceeding the previous highest record in their respective classes, in addition to the usual subsidy. Although the number of cows placed under S.O. test was slightly lower than the previous year, the results were full of merit, and the average for the whole number of certificates issued had again been raised, now standing at 441.061b5. as against 437.571.hs last year.
