« —— A DEFAULTING AIOTORIST. (BY TELEGRAPH PRE.SS ASSOCIATION.' AUCKLAND, June 2. At the Police Court, Air Poynton, S.AI., fined Henry White Hawthorne, aged 40, £IOO for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car in Khyher Pass road. Th© accused’s counsel said he could personally testify that his client was a good man. He had a little sickness and 1 a little over-indulgence in liquor. He was a married man with a family, was in good circumstances, and was making money. A constable stated that the accused’s car was standing in the street. The accused and one woman were in the front seat, and another man and another woman were in the rear seat. The re was no question about the. accused’s condition or the condition of the other three persons. The two women were arrested' on a charge of drunkenness, but tire second man, escaped.
